AMONG THE CHURCHES

The dedication of First Church of Christ, Scientist, on North Oakdale avenue, occurred Sunday [April 21] and was attended by a large and attentive congregation. A dedication message written some time ago by Mary Baker Eddy was read and the following brief history of the church was given:—

The first service was held in May, 1906, in the home of one of the members, with six people in attendance. The steady increase in numbers soon made it necessary to find larger quarters, and the Commercial Club room was secured, where the services were continued, July, 1906. The members of the Commercial Club generously gave the use of this room for one year, and their brotherly kindness was deeply appreciated.

On Sept. 14, 1908, with nineteen members, Christian Science Society of Medford, Ore., was organized. At this time it was decided that the collection taken the first Sunday of each month should be set aside for the purchase of a building site. In November, 1908, a lot on North Orange street was purchased, which was sold about a year later and a payment made on two lots on North Oakdale avenue, the site of the present church edifice.
