Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was...

Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was a chronic invalid, suffering from many ailments, most of which were said to be inherited. I had been taken to various doctors, both in London, England, and in this country, but their methods, though temporarily alleviating, never cured. These doctors gave no hope of a cure, but stated that it would be better not to worry me with schooling, as I was not likely to live to maturity.

I was always religiously inclined, and as I grew older I became an earnest member of the Church of England. The minister of the church to which I belonged was a most spiritually-minded Christian, and he would often talk over with me the parts of the Bible which related to healing. I never could understand why the commands to preach the gospel were considered important as applying to this present age, and the commands to heal the sick were relegated to the past. He would urge a stronger faith in the possibilities of healing, but would also point out that God must know better than I did what was for my good, and I must submit patiently and lovingly to His will. I tried to do this, until Christian Science was brought to my attention as a healing religion. This appealed to me, and fresh hope and courage dawned upon my thought. Its beautiful truths supplanted the blind beliefs I had so long held to, and I learned that God's will meant freedom for every one of His children, not that they should be bound by fetters of disease or sin.

Though my way in Christian Science has not been thornless, and my progress has seemed slow, yet step by step I am being led out of the bondage of disease into the freedom which Christian Science tells us is our birthright. Some of my troubles have been entirely healed; in the case of others I am better than we ever thought would be possible, and I know all will be cured, as I gain more of the truth about God and man, as taught in Christian Science. I would not exchange even my slight knowledge of this Science for anything the world could offer, and I am deeply grateful to God; also to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for this wonderful revelation.—Isabel A. Madge, Virden, Manitoba.
