In a late issue reference is made to a sermon by a clerical critic on "Christian Science and the Christian Religion." People are fast learning that, whatever the subject, if they desire a correct interpretation of it they need to go to those who have made it a study and proven by demonstration that they understand its fundamentals, rather than seek information from its opponents.

It would seem that the embers of religious persecution have not entirely died out. History repeats itself. The learned doctors of divinity in Jesus' day attempted to prove that the Master's idea of God was wrong, because it healed the sick and they could not, and they brought the accusation against him that he did his works through Beelzebub and not through the power of God. Nevertheless, Jesus insisted that it was through the Father that the wonderful works were wrought. Likewise Christian Scientists insist that it is through the Father, in the way pointed out by Christ Jesus, that they have been able to do many good works.

Our critic has raised the question as to what Christian Scientists believe God to be. It would no doubt be well and result in good if every person in our city would consider the question, What is God? On page 587 of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, she defines God as "the great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."
