Ottumwa (Iowa) Review

In a recent issue I find mention of a religious meeting at which one of the speakers took occasion gratuitously to criticize Christian Science, stating, "No, sir; I don't believe in any of that stuff. I believe in Jesus Christ and his salvation, but not after the Christian Science way."

It is clearly evident that this speaker was not thoroughly informed as to what "the Christian Science way" is, or he would have at once recognized that fact that the Christian Science way is the way established by Christ Jesus. One who really believes in "Jesus Christ and his salvation" must accept those practical teachings which were an integral part of Jesus' mission. It may be said without fear of refutation that Jesus not only pointed out to his followers the necessity for reforming the individual, but also the necessity for the healing of the sick, and in almost every instance the command "Heal the sick" was inseparably associated with the injunction "Preach the gospel."

"The Christian Science way," as understood by Christian Scientists, is the way of pure essential Christianity; the way of health, happiness, peace, and brotherly love; the way which recognizes the rights and privileges of each individual to worship God in accordance with the dictates of his own conscience, unrestricted and undisturbed by any one whomsoever. It is a way which if followed means the practice of the golden rule in its completeness, and it is a way which has resulted in the reformation of the sinner, in the healing of hundreds of thousands of cases of what seemed to be hopeless sickness, and in bringing these people into a clearer apprehension of the fact that God governs man and that His laws include infinite good for each one who chooses to place himself in right relationship with God. The adherents of Christian Science have found "the Christian Science way" to be the best way that has ever been pointed out to them, and they will continue to think so, notwithstanding some opposition from those who do not understand this way.
