You are to be commended for the very fine report published in your columns of the lecture recently delivered in the Melbourne town hall on Christian Science. I was present at the lecture, and feel very much gratified at the fact that the truths enunciated reach through your columns so many persons other than those who actually heard them. I would like with your permission to say that I, as a local preacher in the Methodist church, had for many years felt that the healing power of the Christ should still be manifest as it was in the days of Jesus on earth. This phase of our Lord's instruction to his disciples has, however, been allowed to remain dormant, and the gift of healing practically to lapse through desuetude. Undoubtedly God's love and power have ever been the same, for is He not "the same yesterday, and today, and forever"? and His willingness to bless the children of men has never been impaired. As we heard at the lecture, the normal state of man is really that of health and harmony, for God is [the source of] health and is Love, and those made in His image and likeness must of a truth reflect these attributes. Permit me to say, that in opening your columns to the proper discussion of truth you are doing a good and useful work.
