THE LECTURES
Frank H. Leonard delivered a lecture on Christian Science at City hall before an audience of about three hundred and fifty. He was introduced by Hiram Rodee, who said:—
To the close observer of our times, to the one who delves beneath the surface, it is apparent that we are approaching an era of greater interest in spiritual things. We are wont to boast of the marvelous material development of the past century, but notwithstanding these great achievements the soul of humanity is unsatisfied. It is said that this is an age of unrest, and this in itself is an indication of a yearning for something higher and better. This fact is very obvious today in the political world. And this is not surprising when we remember that laws and governments are spiritual creations. True, we may read the books in which the laws are written, we may visit the capital where affairs of state are conducted, but after all we shall be forced to admit that in reality laws and governments are of spiritual origin. And this discontent, as I interpret it, is but an effort to demonstrate a higher degree of truth.
