In the hope that it may be of some good to others, I give my testimony as to the benefits received from Christian Science. The first glimpse I had of the truth was in November, 1908, when "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was sent me by relatives, also other Christian Science reading matter. I tried to study Science and Health as best I could, with the help of a dictionary, as my knowledge of English was limited. I had been in this country then for about eleven years, but knew only what I had learned in every-day experience. I studied the Christian Science literature faithfully, and soon began to see results of the understanding that God is to be trusted in all things and above all else. In knowing this and trying to live up to it, some of my ailments soon vanished. First of all, headaches and a bowel trouble left me, for which before I studied Science and Health I had been using regularly some kind of a remedy. Next, catarrh began to disappear, so that I was able to breathe more freely; the many attacks of cold which I used to have grew less frequent, and this was indeed a great relief to me. I am now able to breathe as freely and naturally as any one.

In the spring of 1909 all four of our children were attacked by measles, which was then very bad in our neightborhood. The two girls got along nicely, but the two boys were much worse, their lungs seeming to be much affected. The youngest, then over two years old, became so bad that for three days he never opened his eyes or took any food. My hope was almost gone, as many of the neighbors had lost their children at this time, and as my fear was so great that I was not able to do anything for him, we telegraphed to a practitioner in Minneapolis. (We were at that time in Marshfield, Wis., and no Christian Scientist was there.) We sent the telegram at five o'clock in the afternoon, and two hours later the child opened his eyes and smiled. I did not know what to make of it, and felt as if I were losing him right then; but my husband reminded me that the Christian Science practitioner was now at work. This gave me new hope, and from that time on the child gained rapidly. Then the oldest boy had very high fever, and at night we both satup, trying to read what we thought most helpful, until the fever went down.

One morning, when I was busy tending the other children and my husband had to go to the shop early, I found the boy was growing worse. I went to send a telegram, but found that no telegraph office would be open until eight o'clock. I was at a loss what to do, so I went to see my husband, and as he wanted to call a doctor, I yielded to his wishes. The doctor came at ten, and left some medicien, which I gave the child twice; then I thought of what I had learned from the Bible and Science and Health,—that we are to put no trust in anything but God. In the mean time I had sent a letter by special delivery to our faithful practitioner, knowing that as soon as she received the same we would get help. The following day the child felt much better, and then all four were given treatment till they were well. We realized then that Truth is mighty to overcome all material conditions.
