BLESSING AND BLESSED

One of our readers has asked us to reprint the word written by Mrs. Eddy in regard to The Christian Science Monitor in the Sentinel of Nov. 21, 1908, just a few days before the first issue of that paper. We are glad to comply with this request, and our readers will doubtless welcome, in connection with this preliminary statement, the message written by Mrs. Eddy for the initial issue of the Monitor, which dealt not only with the daily paper she was then establishing, but also the weekly and monthly periodicals that had then been in operation for a number of years. In the Sentinel above mentioned, our Leader says:—

"Beloved Christian Scientists:—Accept my thanks for your successful plans for the first issue of The Christian Science Monitor. My desire is that every Christian Scientist, and as many others as possible, subscribe for and read our daily newspaper."

Nowhere has Mrs. Eddy more clearly and succinctly defined the purposes of the Christian Science periodicals than in the editorial she penned for the Monitor's first issue:—
