Our critic states that the "Christian religion was built upon Christ," and leads his hearers to believe that Christian Science rejects the teaching of Christ, whereas every student of Christian Science accepts Christ as "the way, the truth, and the life." Jesus said: "God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." Christian Science is a system consistently deduced from a given premise, which premise is the definition of God as Spirit. From this premise Mrs. Eddy has drawn all her conclusions; they are logical, consistent, and demonstrable, and coincide in every respect with the words and works of our Master. There are today unnumbered thousands who have been raised from beds of suffering after having exhausted all medical skill, and who have turned to Christian Science in their last extremity and have found it to be a system which proves its faith by its works.

Our critic asserts that this teaching is "neither Christian nor Science." Webster defines science thus: "Accumulated and accepted knowledge which has been systematized and formulated with reference to the discovery of general truths or the operation of general laws." Of religion he says, "Religion (as distinguished from theology) is subjective, nating the feelings and acts of men which relate to God." Now, the name Christian Science indicates exactly what it expresses—the Science (or knowledge) of Christianity; it is called Christian because it is the Christ-teaching and shows men how to have the Mind that was in Christ Jesus. It is Science because it is based on divine law, is logical, practical, and applicable to all life's problems. Those having an understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science can demonstrate with scientific certainty that "with God all things are possible."

Christian Science includes the whole of Christianity. Jesus said; "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The life of our Master proved conclusively that the healing of the sick and the reformation of the sinner were accomplished by this understanding of the truth which frees from all error. Christian Science is not "New-Thoughtism," not a "little pettifogging creed," but the religion taught and practised by Jesus on the hills of Judea and the shores of Galilee, and until our critic fulfils the command of our Master to "heal the sick" as well as "preach the gospel," it would be well for him to heed the Scriptural injunction to "judge righteous judgement."
