REFLECTED RAYS

In Christian Science we learn that God is Truth, revealed to us through the Christ, the Word made manifest. Jesus said, "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." If Christians have been asking, as did Pilate, "What is truth?" it must be because they have been without Christ, or without the true understanding of the Word; and it is the mission of Christian Science to demonstrate anew the truth of being, taught of old, to give to every yearning hope a definition of the Christ-idea, an understanding of what Truth is, and make it practical in solving the daily problems of life.

God, Truth, ordained the Christ-Science, that spiritual understanding by which Jesus overcame all material law and manifested or demonstrated the power of Truth in his healing works. This spiritual method of the Christ-Science was revealed to our beloved Leader, who has recorded this revelation, with systematic rules which are a guide as to how we should live the life and do the works of Christ Jesus. The Christ-idea came to her, as Christ must come to each and all of us, and she did not reject or crucify it, but received the divine idea with a heart full of love and thanksgiving. Invited to the marriage feast of divine Love and Love's idea, she went gladly, and being clothed in the simple white robe of humility which all must wear at this wedding, she partook abundantly of this manna from heaven, even the "bread of life." Having partaken of this bread, she has done no less than did the disciples,—she has "borne this bread from house to house, breaking (explaining) it to others" (Science and Health, p. 33), and to hundreds and thousands of homes she has brought comfort.

When we know Truth as manifested by Christ Jesus, Truth knows us and abides with us. The acquaintance must be mutual, for Christ said, "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." That he knows his sheep in Christian Science is evidenced by the fact that as a result of its teaching divine Truth speaks to us the Christ word, the healing word, so that we meet the test he imposed, namely, "By their fruits ye shall know them." Moreover, Christ Jesus taught men how to proceed to know this true doctrine; he said, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine."
