A writer in a recent issue, under the pseudonym of "An Old Subscriber," urges that Christian Science "must be very open to attack," because assaults on it by contributors to the press are promptly refuted. Perhaps no stronger evidence of the genuineness of Christian Science can be produced than these attacks, which are frequently under cover. If Christian Science were doing nothing for humanity, the ire of hostile critics would not be aroused; but it is because it is a religion of positive results that attempts are made to discredit it.

If "An Old Subscriber" will read the life of Jesus as presented in the New Testament, he will find that Jesus was constantly assailed during his ministry on earth; but our hidden friend could hardly argue from those attacks that there was something wrong with the religion of Jesus Christ. Because Christian Scientists fairly and openly defend their religion from misrepresentations, is no evidence of weakness. The critics might deem it more convenient for themselves to be unmolested in their assaults on Christian Science, but Christian Scientists see clearly that only harm could come should they submit to such uncalled-for aspersions.

This anonymous contributor defends the sincerity of a recent assailer of Christian Science. The sincerity of an individual has no bearing upon truth. A person may be sincere in his purpose in attacking Christian Science, but if he misrepresents it and holds it up to the public in a false light, his sincerity avails him nothing against the truth which he attempts to overthrow.
