In return for the help which I have so often received...
In retrun for the help which I have so often received from the testimony of others, I should like to add my word of gratitude for the blessing of Christian Science. Some years ago I was in a hosptial for four weeks, undergoing and recovering from a serious surgical operation, and while I lay there, one of several hundreds under the same roof in various degrees of suffering and pain, all my reason rebelled against the worship of a God who had made helpless mankind undergo suffering that even mortals would not inflict, one upon another, I had read Science and Health twice, and had voted it perfect nonsense; but in those days it came back to me as the only teaching of which I had ever heard that said God did not create mankind to suffer, nor was their pain inevitable.
I had a most devoted doctor and nurse, and for four months I faithfully followed their requirements, but the moment my nurse closed the door after her dismissal, I took up the once despised copy of Science and Health, and it has been my guide and help ever since. It was no longer nonsense to me, but clear, absolute truth. There are some difficulties still unmet, but as I look back and see how, one by one, the dark places have become light, how fear and discontent and self-pity have given to joy and love and a deep sense of security, I know that through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy I have learned of a true God, and gained an understanding which will meet every difficulty, however small or however great it may seem.
