In Science and Health (p. 255) we read: "'Let there be light' is the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, changing chaos into order and discord into the music of the spheres." Christian Science has changed discord into music for me and mine, and I am daily learning of the perpetual demand of Truth and Love, since I awoke to know that the Bible and Science and Health point to the light of Truth. Five years ago I was at neighbor's who was moving. About the house were scattered many books, so I picked out several medical books and a copy of Science and Health, remarking that perhaps now I could find a cure for my little boy. I studied the medical books and read Science and Health slightly, then discarded all of them. Shortly and Health slightly, then discarded all of them. Shortly after this I was ill in bed, and the doctor was about to change the medicines when I remembered something about mind and medicine that I had read in Science and Health, and I thought I would like to read it again. I told the doctor not to call any more, and the next morning I got up and walked to a neighbor's borrow some Christian Science literature.

When reading Science and Health the second time I felt that I wanted to go far and near to shout its praise. To be told that God did not cause sickness and sorrow for some wise purpose seemed to me wonderful, and yet all so simple and right. Our child was healed from sudden sick spells and weak stomach in a few treatments, after he had been under a doctor's care for over a year; also croup disappeared entirely from the children at my first effort to see God's child aright. When we moved to another state and out into the country away from church and other Scientists, both myself and husband realized that now we must work out our own salvation, and I cannot begin to tell of the many helpful lessons and the rough places that were made smooth by turning directly to Principle. A child was born without outside help of any kind, all being harmonious and with but little suffering. I arose that evening and washed and dressed the baby. The next day I was about the house, and the next was doing my usual daily work. A son nine years of age was suffering greatly from toothache. I worked throughout the night with him without apparent success, but in the morning I took the Christian Science Hymnal and began to repeat our Leader's hymn, "Shepherd, show me how to go." When I came to the words, "I will listen for Thy voice," I stopped, as then I saw clearly that I had not been listening at all; that we can but listen and follow. The toothache soon stopped and the swelling quickly disappeared.

When quite young I had suffered an attack of sunstroke which seemed to affect my head. As the years went by the pain I had to endure was so severe that I sometimes feared I should go insane. These spells gradually grew less severe after I began the daily study of our Lessons, and now have disappeared entirely. As the children grow up they reveal to us how near is infinite Love; they recognize God's government and naturally become obedient and helpful as day by day I throw off the fear, care, and worry of former years, that bound myself and them. I feel that I do but little when I teach my children to love a Leader who has so gently led the children into freedom, health, and holiness, while wisely pointing out to the mother her true relation to the child, thereby filling our homes with gladness and our hearts with peace.
