THE LECTURES

A lecture was given Tuesday evening, Aug. 16, at the Mousam Opera House, by Prof. Hermann S. Hering, of Concord, N. H. The lecturer was introduced by Harry E. King, of Toledo, O., who owns a cottage at Kennebunk Beach. Mr. King said in part,—

Charles Lamb was once asked how he liked a certain Mr. Smith who was well known and highly regarded in the community. "Why," said Lamb, "I do not like him at all." "Indeed, and why not?" asked the other. "Well," said the humorist, "I do not know him at all." For the same reason many good people dislike and oppose Christian Science. They do not know it at all, but do not hesitate to judge and condemn it. Their fears and objections would be overcome if they would intelligently inform themselves concerning the pure teaching and beneficent practice of Christian Science. This has been the experience of thousands in every part of the civilized world.—Eastern Star.
