In
the fourth chapter of Genesis we are tersely told of the judgment which followed so closely upon the crime committed by Cain: "And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother?
We
are all more or less familiar with the account of Jesus' feeding of the five thousand, and have gained therefrom an assurance that there is a law of supply which if understood and put into operation silences forever under all conditions the belief in or fear of limitation and poverty.
If Christian Science has done nothing else for modern religious thought, it is worth while simply for the demonstration it affords in crowded congregations, assembled through no enticements of pulpit oratory or celebrated singers and organists, but chiefly through the spontaneous impulse of personal religious experience.
Inasmuch as there is hardly an individual in any community who has not at least one friend that has experienced the benefits of Christian Science and become a "believer," it is indeed a surprise that a clergyman, whose duty it is to bring to suffering humanity the salvation taught and practised by our Master, should make the statements of our critic.
Christian Science and methods which seek to combine drugs and prayer are not only not akin, philosophically or otherwise, but they bear no resemblance to each other in any important particular.
In reply to a recent article in which Christian Scientists are criticized in connection with arguments made for the establishment of a national department of health, permit me to say that Christian Scientists are working just as intelligently and effectively to prevent and cure disease as any other class of people, and that this statement is provable.
Nothing is more foreign to the teaching and practice of Christian Science than the endeavor to use it in the acquirement of any material thing, as such.
It
is not surprising, perhaps, that the novice in Christian Science should find himself somewhat confused as to the proper function and form of prayer.
There
are thousands who have listened to the beautiful aria, "O rest in the Lord," and who have felt at least momentarily that it is good to "wait patiently" for God, who have never thought of applying this profound truth to every difficult experience of daily life.
I feel so very thankful for what Christian Science has done for me and for our little boy, that it gives me great pleasure to send a testimony, and I sincerely hope that many mothers may be influenced to have their children relieved from bondage through Christian Science.
I have felt for some time that I, as one who had been greatly benefited by the knowledge that God has imparted to His children, through "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," should testify to the world of the wonderful healing and spiritual unfolding that have come to me through the study of Christian Science, in connection with the Bible, and the services of a Christian Science practitioner.

It is over six years since I became interested in Christian Science, and words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God for the wonderful blessings He has showered upon me in that time.
Since I first began the study of Christian Science, over ten years ago, it has truly been to me the promised Comforter, lifting me out of many dark places and bringing me into the light which heals and saves.
I was always regarded as a delicate child, and at the age of sixteen the doctors said I had lung trouble, besides other aliments which were distressing me.
About a year and a half ago, through the healing of a little child in a home where I lived, Christian Science and its beautiful teachings of Truth first came to me.
Prompted by divine Love, and with a heart full of gratitude for all that Christian Science has brought to me, I write this testimony, trusting it may help some one as others' testimonies have helped me.
The care with which all machinery is cleansed and oiled, so that neither dust nor friction will wear the parts, is suggestive to us as Christian Scientists.
