I was always regarded as a delicate child, and at the age of sixteen the doctors said I had lung trouble, besides other aliments which were distressing me. I failed to get any relief from material remedies and was finally advised to go to Colorado. For a while the change seemed to benefit me, then my old symptoms became worse than ever. In the winter of 1891 I had a severe attack, and it seemed that I could not last much longer. As soon as it was possible for me to travel I decided to go to California. I learned later that after I left home the doctor said to a neighbor that I would never come back alive.
After trying the California climate for about six months, and finding that I was no better, I was persuaded by kind friends to try Christian Science. About a month after I began to take treatment, I was able to return to my home in Colorado. I expected to go back to California the following winter, as I did not think I could stand the winter north, but greatly to my surprise I found that I did not need to go back. I think it was about the middle of the winter when my attention was called to the fact that I had no symptoms of lung trouble, and as nearly as I could remember, it had been about two weeks since these had left me. I only saw the practitioner twice before leaving California, all my other treatments being absent. Through the persistent study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, with help when necessary, all my other ailments were overcome. My greatest desire is for more of the understanding of this healing truth that Jesus brought to the world, and which has been more fully revealed to this age through Mrs. Eddy.
