It is now twenty years since the healing work of Christian Science...

It is now twenty years since the healing work of Christian Science entered my consciousness. The first benefit received from reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was a change of thought from agnosticism to a belief in God, divine Mind, which resulted in the overcoming of bad temper, the habit of profanity, selfishness, etc. When I began the study of Christian Science, catarrhal conditions of the head and throat were very serious. The sense of smell was almost wholly gone, and memory weakened. I became easily irritated and my sense of life was becoming vague and uncertain. I am thankful, and can truthfully say I have been relieved of all these troubles, and many of them have been banished entirely by the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings. Of the cigar habit and of a felon on one of my fingers I was healed in a few treatments through the help of a practitioner, but I have been able to help myself mainly through the understanding I have gained by the study of Science and Health, and I have also been able to help others in this way.

To me Christian Science is at once the center and circumference of the Christ-method of healing and destroying sickness and sin. Mrs. Eddy, through her innate desire for truth, and spiritual activity of thought coupled with a longing to benefit all mankind and to know but one God, has been imbued with the Christ-spirit and with power from on high, to the degree of proving her words with deeds, healing the sick, changing the thought from an erroneous basis to one of demonstrable and scientific accomplishment. She has abundantly obeyed the command "to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick," for today the glad tidings are coming from all over the world of the healing of the body and the renewing of the mind.

I am deeply grateful that these good things have reached me, and I rejoice with all who have been touched with the healing truth through her ministrations. I am thankful that I was able to accept Christian Science without faultfinding or criticisms of Mrs. Eddy's methods. I have endeavored to accept every by-law of The Mother Church; in fact, I may say I have anticipated some of them, and never have I questioned those which I did not understand, feeling sure their wisdom would be revealed to me if I were willing to be subject to them. It was my privilege to be one of the multitude who assembled at Mrs. Eddy's home on the occasion of her last public meeting at Pleasant View with the members of her church. I had longed to see the Founder of the Christian Science movement, and my desire was gratified. I shall never forget her closing words on that occasion: "Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts" (Sentinel, July 4, 1903). Since then I have tried to follow her admonition, and when I have done this faithfully I can truly say that Truth has been a "shield and buckler." I do not say, God bless our Leader, for I know that God does bless her, and I am glad for all the blessings she has brought to her followers and to the whole world.
