Peterborough (Ont.) Times

Christian Science is not a "fad," but a practical and demonstrable system of religion and healing, which for the past forty years, in the face of the bitterest opposition and ridicule, and oftentimes persecution, has proved beyond the shadow of a doubt its right to be recognized as the greatest blessing that has come to mankind since the day of our great Master, whose teachings and practice it logically explains and interprets, in the way he commanded; namely, by the healing of sickness and the overcoming of sin. To compel a Christian Scientist to resort to a system of healing in which he has no faith, simply because it happens to be the practice of the majority, and to deprive him of the privilege of depending upon that system which he has proven in his own experience to be the most efficacious, would be intolerance of the worst kind, and would not only be opposed to the precepts of the golden rule, but directly contrary to the British sense of justice and fair play upon which we in this country pride ourselves. Fortunately this sort of intolerance has fallen into disuse, and the law protects those who are in the minority as it does those in the majority. Were "Humanity's" ideas consistently carried out, and those who differed from the prevailing systems of healing prosecuted, he would some day find himself punished for practising his favorite method of healing, for at the present rate that drug healing is being abandoned it will be simply a matter of time till that system becomes a thing of the past. We must all learn to be more tolerant of the opinions and beliefs of those who differ from us, and be willing to accord to our neighbor the same rights which we ourselves enjoy.
