I feel that the time has come for me to add my testimony to the list of those who have been freed from mortal bondage. When I took up "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I felt that I had endured all that I could in the way of suffering. I thought the book a large one, and that I should never be able to read it, but I was anxious to know what Christian Science really was. I had seen this text quoted in The Christian Science Journal, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," and it seemed to have a message that I soon proved to be very real. I read a little while in the textbook, and was lifted above my troubled sense by the revelations that were unfolded to me. I heard the voice of Life, Truth, and Love, and gained my healing, taking off the glasses which I had worn constantly for eighteen years for serious eye trouble.

My eyes had been bad for twenty-five years; I could not endure heat or cold without suffering and loss of sight. I had been in four different institutions for medical treatment, but medicine gave very little relief. One eye was considered hopeless, and I was in fear of losing the other, as the doctors had told me I would go completely blind if I was not careful, and I dreaded the thought of it. Some years ago I was anointed for "faith-healing," and believed that God could heal the sick, but no healing came to me. I thought it was God's will that I should suffer, and I was so glad when Christian Science showed me that the reverse is true. This brought me into the harbor wherein a safe anchorage was found. One beautiful demonstration took place in Hornsea church on Sunday morning, Aug. 20, 1908. There is a text at the back of the platform which I had never been able to see, but in the seeming darkness there arose in all its clearness the word "truth." The vividness of the scene was almost too much for me; I realized that it was "light at eventide," and that it was of God. The next time I went to the church I was able to read the whole of the text, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I can now read for hours together without pain or loss of sight.

Christian Science has done very much for me in one short year, and I feel deeply grateful to have the tightened cords loosened. Words can only faintly express my gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy and all others who have helped me into the realization of peace.
