[Written for the Sentinel.]

"I WILL LIFT UP MINE EYES."

Unto the hills I will lift up mine eyes!
Symbol and type to me are they
Of Him who did the heaven and earth create—
Whence comes my strength from day to day.

Nor snare nor pitfall shall my feet betray,
For He who slumbers not doth keep
Me when I walk the treacherous path,
Or confident lie down to sleep.

O blessed thought, that He to whom we pray
That evil may from us depart,
Shall to the end preserve us from its wiles,
Shall safely guard the struggling heart.

Unto the hills I will lift up mine eyes!
Father, be evermore my guide,—
I look to Thee for strength for daily needs,
That I from Truth turn not aside.
