It was after I had taken medicine for weak lungs for over two years, that I came to Christian Science. I also had a stomach trouble, for which the doctor urgently advised an operation. To this, however, my relatives would not consent. After some weeks, when I had improved enough to walk around, I went to a Christian Science practitioner's house, where for the first time I was told of Christian Science—or "healing through prayer," as she called it. She offered to help me free of charge, and I was healed in one treatment. I was then fourteen years old, and as the laws of Norway are very strict about school attendance, my teacher, when she heard of my improved health, sent for me. A doctor's certificate now became necessary, so I went to the same physician who had for the last two years prescribed for me, and who had also advised the operation. After giving me a very thorough examination, he said, "Now you are well, lungs and all." And so it has proved.
This was more than three years ago, and since then I have spent over a year in a factory, but have never felt any reminders of the old troubles. I am at present a strong and healthy girl over seventeen. Before I was healed, I had to beg for bread; but I thank God that through Christian Science health has been restored, so that I at present can earn not only my own living but am able also to give a helping hand to my widowed mother, who has four little ones to support. My hopes are that my life in the future will bear such fruits as will prove my gratitude.
