In gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy,...

In gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I wish to relate my experience. I had been a great sufferer for many years, in pain most of the time, and I never knew what it was to be free from a sense of weariness. I was operated upon in one of the hospitals in Boston, but the operation was not a success. I also had four operations performed at my home, without any lasting benefit, two physicians giving up my case and one stating that he thought I could not live forty-eight hours. I then set the medicine aside and gained rapidly, but was not healed. The doctors told me that unless I submitted to a very critical operation, with only one chance in a hundred of recovery, I could never be well.

My husband had recovered from an illness and gone away to work, and I went also. While away, my husband's trouble came back worse than ever, and we called in a physician, who relieved him for a few hours, so that he was able to go out; but he was again taken very ill in the office of the firm for which he worked. He asked some one to take him home, and this man was a Christian Scientist. He asked my husband if he might send his wife over to talk with him. She came, and through her treatment my husband was relieved, and he expressed the thought that if I were a Christian Scientist I could help him. I was willing to be a Christian Scientist if I found it to be right, so I began to study the Lesson-Sermons with the lady who had helped my husband. I was very anxious to have a copy of Science and Health, so when my husband made me a birthday present of ten dollars, I invested part of it in a copy of this book. The second morning after receiving Science and Health, I sat by the window reading the chapter on Prayer, and looking up I earnestly prayed our heavenly Father to manifest the truth to me in some way, that I might know without a doubt. Immediately a most beautiful light seemed to fill the cottage, and I was healed. I also suffered from partial blindness, but was able to remove the glasses which I was wearing constantly, although I still use glasses for reading and sewing. After my healing, convulsions, a trouble from which I had suffered for years, came up again, but I had Christian Science treatment and was healed. Materia medica had never been able to overcome this trouble.

I cannot find words to express the wonderful peace and happiness which came to me when I realized that Christ, Truth, had set me free. It is easy to tell of one's physical healing, but I cannot express the spiritual uplifting which I received in seeking another's good. My prayer is to be ever faithful, and to do some good each day.
