When, about two and a half years ago, I heard that Christian Science was being demonstrated in Dresden, I was a member of an orthodox church, and heard there that Christian Science was confusing the minds of the people. Although I was very much afraid of the supposed danger, I did not fully trust the statement, and though I would find out with God's help. It was not possible for me to believe that people who accomplished healing work among the sick could be without God. My health had become poorer each year through frequent attacks of illness, as well as from sorrow and worry, and a professor of medicine in Leipzic told me that I must go to a sanitarium. As I could see no possibility of doing so, and as the pain became so severe that I had to take large doses of an opiate prescribed as a sedative, I decided to find out whether or not the healing wrought through Christian Science came from God. During the first treatment I kept praying to God that He would rather let me be ill if it were not His will that Christian Science should heal me. I was convinced that God is omnipotent, and I had confidence in Christ Jesus' words: "Whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do." The sense of freedom and well-doing which I experienced on the following morning, and which had before been practically unknown to me, gave me the assurance that God is with Christian Science.
Unfortunately for me, I began to criticize and judge those who attended the services, and this brought back the old doubts, so that the ground seemed to slip from under my feet. It was not until a year later that I began to get some understanding, when through loving and patient explanations I was shown how much there was in me that needed to be changed, and how I should work on these lines. Now I am convinced that Christian Science is practical and applicable Christianity. To my unspeakable joy I see more and more how Christian Science illumines the word of God which formerly seemed to me dark and difficult to understand, and how it makes it an ever-present source of strength and help. With a feeling of deep gratitude to our noble Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I am striving to walk in obedience and faith the narrow path of the Christ-teaching which has brought sure help, better health, and light into my life.—Frau Dr. L. Junge, Dresden, Germany.
