LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

San Jose, Cal., Sept. 3, 1909.

Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, Brookline, Mass.

Dear Leader:— This evening, the occasion of the quarterly meeting of the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Jose, Cal., we want to take the opportunity of unitedly thanking you for restoring to our Christian Science Hymnal the old familiar tunes to which your beautiful and dearly loved hymns were originally set. It has been for the past ten years or more the joyous custom of this branch church to sing each week one of your hymns, so that many of us, as well as many of the congregation, are thoroughly familiar with both the old and new tunes; but, like the dear old scenes of our childhood and youth, the old tunes touch a very tender chord, and we are deeply rejoiced to have you restore them. Your love and gentle yet firm watchfulness for the good of all is an hourly inspiration to your followers to deeper and holier consecration to Christ and his Cause. With much love,
First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Jose, Cal.
