SEPTEMBER DAY

My heart is thine, fade not away,
O beautiful September day!
Thy calm is mine—Love's message clear
Comes gently to my list'ning ear;
It heals all grief and soothes all fear.
Canst thou not stay,
September day?
If thou wilt stay I'll watch and pray,
O restful, rare September day!
I'll heed the lesson of thy life,
To turn from scenes where storms are rife,
To love—to live above all strife—
Canst thou not stay,
September day?

Though night should come without one ray,
O peaceful, fair September day,
Can I forget, or be untrue?
Still dost thou bide in heav'nly hue,
God's own sweet message comes anew;
And thou shalt stay with me for aye,
O beautiful September day!
