THE LECTURES

Prof. Hermann S. Hering of Concord, N. H., delivered an interesting and able lecture to a large audience at the Tacoma Theater last night [March 22] on "Christian Science, the Science of Salvation." Professor Hering was introduced by Clarence C. Eaton, who spoke in part as follows:—

Inasmuch as Christian Science does not need you or me, but we need it, I understand that no attempt will be made by the speaker directly to urge any one to augment the number of its adherents. All questions concerning the well-being of mankind. Christian Science treats as paramount and privileged ones, and the believers in this Science would rejoice to see relegated to a deserved oblivion the practices so commonly resorted to in religious meetings of attempting to influence men unduly upon spiritual questions. The public addresses provided for by this movement are not designed to persuade individuals to think as we do, but to think independently for themselves. We plead for a candid and unprejudiced investigation of all spiritual truths. It is of first importance that we know the truth, because the promise of Christ Jesus is that our freedom from sin and disease is contingent upon such Christian knowing. Moreover, life eternal is to be obtained through a knowledge of Truth. Christian Science promises much to the world. and in the light of its accomplishments thus far, there is every reason to believe that these promises, and even more than we can think or ask, will be naturally. lawfully, and scientifically fulfilled through the truth.

As all that concerns our present happiness and future joy rests upon the acquirement and conscious possession of. a knowledge of God and His Christ, I am constrained to urge that, to the extent we are privileged to exercise our volition this afternoon, the speaker's message receive our impartial judgment and consideration, in order that we as listeners, individually and collectively, may profit by the vital truths to which it will be his great joy to give expression.—Tacoma Ledger.
