Nearly a year ago I was advised by a friend to try Christian Sciencek, to see if it would not take me out of the bondage in which I had been held for many years. When I called on this friend one morning I was a nervous and mental wreck, a condition brought on by drinking, a habit I had indulged for about seventeen years. This friend advised me to go to a Christian Science practitioner, and I promised him I would do so, though I had little faith that I would receive any benefit, as I had previously taken treatment for the liquor habit and had been to several hospitals, but received only temporary relief. I went, however, to First Church of Christ, Scientist, this city, and received a treatment. The practitioner gave me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and asked me to read it. After several treatments, and the study of this book, I began to see light, and in three weeks I had lost all desire and taste for liquor. A former friend, with whom I used to drink, could hardly believe I had been healed.
Christian Scientists can realize how grateful I feel toward our beloved Leader, for through her teachings I have been brought out of sin and darkness into spiritual light.—Thos. J. McGowan, New York, N. Y.
