THE MONITOR AS A NEWSPAPER
If we may judge by some of the inquiries received at this office, a number of our friends do not fully understand the scope of the daily newspaper soon to be issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society. In the announcement of this paper in the Sentinel of Oct. 17, we stated that it was the intention of the Trustees of the Society "to publish a strictly up-to-date newspaper, in which all the news of the day that should be printed will find a place, and the news service of which will not be restricted to any one locality or section, but will cover the daily activities of the entire world."
Another point emphasized in the announcement was that the Monitor would contain, "in addition to the usual news features of the best city papers, such special departments as will make it a home paper of the highest grade, —one which will appeal to good men and women everywhere who are interested in the betterment of all human conditions and the moral and spiritual advancement of the race; but from the 'news' standpoint as well the Monitor will be read with interest from Maine to California and from Canada to Mexico. Even our friends across the sea will find the Monitor interesting."
Practically a month has elapsed since the Monitor was announced, and in that time nothing has occurred to make it necessary for the Trustees to modify any of the promises made on behalf of this paper; on the contrary, judging from the personnel of the staff and the quality of the news service which they have been able to secure, they believe they are justified in saying that the Monitor will be even better than was promised.
