It is now six or seven years since I first heard of Christian Science. My sister was at that time very sick with a fever, and a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist brought us several copies of the Sentinel and asked us to read them. The papers lay on a table for some time, and were at last returned without my having read them, as I feared I might be led to change my religious belief, with which I at that time believed I was satisfied. After that we neither thought nor heard anything more about Christian Science for a year or two, when it was again brought to our notice by this same neighbor, my mother being sick. A copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was loaned to us, and I took it up and began to read. I knew at once I had found something which I did not need to fear, indeed I had found something which would drive all fear away. I have received many blessings through the study of this wonderful book, together with the Bible, and the understanding of Christian Science which I have thereby gained is worth much to me.

It was my mother's healing, however, which caused me to take up the study of Christian Science, and I will speak of it, as some one else may be benefited thereby. About five years ago my mother became mentally unbalanced, and while we did all we could for her, she still seemed to grow worse. At last she became so violent that we decided we would have to send her to an asylum, but as we were getting ready to do this our neighbor came to us and asked us to try Christian Science. After talking it over, my father decided to give Christian Science a trial, and treatment was begun. We noticed a change in my mother for the better very soon, and she kept on improving until her mind was restored to its normal condition. This was about five years ago, and she has never had a return of the trouble. I cannot find words to express my gratitude for this healing, for it brought my mother back to us from something worse than the grave.

Among the many things that Christian Science has done for me, I wish to speak of a demonstration that was made last summer. I had a growth in my throat which troubled me very much, as it seemed to be the cause of frequent spells of coughing. This went on for some time, until finally I asked for Christian Science treatment. It was not long before I noticed an improvement, the irritation ceased to trouble me, and slowly but surely the growth disappeared until it was entirely gone. I have had no trouble with my throat since, and can talk and sing without the least difficulty. I am very grateful for this healing, as it encouraged me to study Christian Science more than I had ever done before.
