THE LECTURES

Francis J. Fluno, M.D., lectured to an audience of over two thousand, Sunday, Nov. 10, and was introduced by Mr. Oliver C. McGilvra, one of the well-known attorneys of the city, who said in part,—

To my mind the most important documents in American history are the three declarations of independence. They are first, the American Declaration of Independence,—being a declaration against the oppression of a foreign power; second, the Proclamation of Emancipation,—being a declaration against a condition of human slavery; and third, the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,"—being a declaration against the bondage of sin, sickness, and death.

The American Declaration of Independence was written by the bravest and wisest men who ever assembled in convention; the Proclamation of Emancipation was written by Abraham Lincoln, the grandest man who ever sat in the Presidential chair; and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" was written by the Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy, the foremost woman in all the world to-day. The essential truths of the American Declaration of Independence and of the Proclamation of Emancipation, laudable as they were, were yet enforced at the sacrifice of thousands of lives, millions of money, and with the sword as the weapon, while the Principle of Christian Science is being established without the shedding of a drop of blood, without the waste of a single dollar, and with the Bible as its only weapon.
