Very much like persecution appear the continued attacks...

Buffalo (N. Y.) Enquirer

Very much like persecution appear the continued attacks of certain members of the press on Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, Founder and still Leader of the Christian Science religion.

Setting aside altogether the question of the desirability of a universal acceptance of Mrs. Eddy's faith, it appears little short of absurdity to seek to prove mental or physical incompetency for the woman who has been able to draw about her such a strong following; to so firmly establish a great church and to accumulate a fortune as a result of personal effort .... Those newspapers which have persistently sought to destroy Mrs. Eddy's power with her followers, and hold her up to ridicule before the world at large, have been guilty of three serious breaches of honor:—

They have attacked a woman.
They have attacked old age.
They have attacked religion.
