I was made so happy a few days ago by a demonstration...
I was made so happy a few days ago by a demonstration over some dental work that I feel I must tell this experience in order that others may know they too can be freed from limitations imposed by asserted material laws. I took my little boy to a dentist to have a tooth filled, and when the dentist had made a further examination he said there were several teeth which should be removed. He told me that it would be necessary for the child to take gas, since the teeth were not loose and the operation would therefore be a painful one unless an anesthetic were given. We then left the office. I could see that these suggestions had planted the seeds of dread and fear in the child's thought, for the frequently alluded to the operation, saying that he could not have the work done unless he took the gas. Realizing his mental condition. I decided not to argue the point with him, but to give him a Christian Science treatment, which I knew would destroy the fear. The next day the child ran into my room, exclaiming, "Mother, I am not afraid to have my teeth pulled without the gas. When shall we have it done?" An appointment was made for the following day, when the operation was performed with entire freedom from fear and from the pain which usually accompanies such an ordeal. After each tooth was removed, bringing no outcry of any sort, the dentist looked at me in amazement. When he had finished his work he exclaimed, "Well, you are the bravest boy I have ever known!"
On our way home I told my son that this demonstration was the result of his own decision not to depend on the gas, and of the trust which he had thereby placed in God. To this he replied, "I know it, mother." As for myself, I had gone into that dentist's office with a perfect sense of freedom from fear, and with a conscious realization of the power of God's law to save from suffering. I am very grateful to our Leader for the revelation of Truth which enables me to prove each day in some measure the omnipotence of God's "word" and its power to heal through the operation of Christian Science.
