In 1889 I became interested in Christian Science...

In 1889 I became interested in Christian Science through the healing of my wife after a number of physicians said they could do nothing more for her. We had been married but two short years, were much devoted to one another, and did not wish to be separated, as we then believed we would be, and that in a very short time, if we found nothing better than drugs to depend upon for her life. It was at this time a friend and a neighbor proposed that we try Christian Science. They themselves knew nothing of it, only that they had heard of it, and said there was at that time a Christian Science practitioner in our city on a visit from a distant city. We had never heard of Christian Science before, but were willing and ready to try anything that might help us in our trouble, so we sent word to this practitioner to call at our home. After several hours' debating pro and con as to the Scriptures, of which my wife and I professed to be students, we decided that we would try Christian Science treatment, and surely it was God who helped us to decide. From that day there was a great change in our home,—sickness disappeared, and God, who is Truth and Love, was revealed to us. At this time it appeared as if we were very poor in this world's goods. I was receiving small wages and had been paying a nurse, help, and doctors' bills, which made it very hard; but our thought took a turn and a sense of riches came to us both as soon as we learned to know God, for God is all, and when we left all for God and came to Him in truth, as taught by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health, we began to receive that heritage which was rightfully ours. My business is that of inspecting other men's work and material. Before coming to know anything of Christian Science I was always looking to find something wrong, and I generally found it, but since coming into Christian Science I have changed my mode of working and now I am looking for all work and material to be perfect, knowing that in Truth there is nothing but good. So doing I find this is appreciated by all with whom I come in contact, and they are many in different parts of the country. By having this truth we have gained heavenly riches and a liberal supply of needful things, all of which has come to us through the teachings of Science and Health.

I am very grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader, who has so wonderfully shown us the way, and we are both trying to know more and more each day of this truth which set us free.—W. H. Lambert, Lima, O.
