From childhood I was considered very delicate....

From childhood I was considered very delicate. As I grew older I became worse, and was often told that I had inherited many diseases and could not live to be a woman. When I was sixteen my father and mother were very greatly troubled over my condition. The physician who was called said my lungs were affected, but claimed he could help me. I did seem to receive some help, but later grew worse. At this time, in addition to being attacked with severe catarrhal trouble, I suffered from my eyes. My stomach and heart were also seriously affected, and our family physician said nothing could be done for the former as it was an incurable complaint, and to relieve the pain morphine was regularly injected. Being told by the attending physician's wife that I was doomed to chronic invalidism, I became very much discouraged, and prayed earnestly for health; but my prayers were seemingly unanswered. I studied the Bible daily, my desire being to live a true Christian life and do the work which had been given me, but I could not do much because of my weakness and suffering. Finally I went to see a physician who it was believed could bring me relief. He said that an operation was necessary, which might give temporary relief but could not cure. He did not even give me any assurance that I could live through it, so I went home expecting no help until death should come. I had been treated by eight physicians, whose kindness I shall always remember. At times I would become so discouraged with the fruitlessness of their efforts that I would no longer consult them, but instead would resort to medicines of various kinds. I remember taking fifteen bottles of one kind without perceptible effect before I gave it up.

In this condition, over eight years ago, Christian Science found me. I went to a Christian Science practitioner, and was treated for five weeks, during which time, to my great delight, my afflictions disappeared one after another, and left me a free woman for the first time in my life. Since then I have been strong and well and able to accomplish all that it is my duty to do. Is it any wonder, then, that Christian Science is more to me than anything on this earth?—Anna Olson, Boulder, Col.
