PEACE MEETINGS IN THE NEW YORK CHURCHES

We quote as follows from a letter received from Mr. John D. Higgins, Clerk of First Church of Christ, Scientist, New York:—

I enclose herewith a clipping from this morning's New York Times, giving an account of the special service held in this church at three o'clock yesterday afternoon, preliminary to the Peace Congress convening in this city today. The meeting was very successful and satisfactory in every way, both to the audience and to the speakers. The auditorium was filled. Prior to the opening of the meeting, and in honor of the nationality of the chief speakers, the organ rendered "Die Wacht am Rhein" and the "Marseillaise."

Mr. Hayne Davis, American Secretary of the International Conciliation Committee, who is also Secretary of the Legislative and Judiciary Committees of the Peace Congress, conducted the services, which were opened by the singing of Hymn 153, "A Glorious Day is Dawning;" reading from the 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians; also a selection from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy, this reading being followed by silent prayer and the audible repetition of the Lord's Prayer.
