It is now over five years since Christian Science was presented to me. It was the practical daily help that attracted me then, learning of the impotency of evil and the allness of God, good. I had always believed before in the power of evil, and left myself in God's hands to help me out of it. Christian Science taught me to treat all evil as illusion, as merely a ghost in the dark, to be regarded fearlessly as nothing, in whatever phase it may come to one. I learned, too, that we must bring forth fruits of the Spirit in our daily thought and walk. This was so different from the old thought of praying to be made better. Now our duty is summed up in our dear Leader's Message. beginning, "Keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them" (Sentinel, Oct. 6, 1906). Science and Health teaches us to meet and conquer the false belief of life in matter, or of any life apart from God. I had my time of doubts and fears to go through, and seemingly lost my God and Saviour for about a week, but found Him—as did Mary in the garden—by turning around and looking up to see Him.
I wish also to say that I have proved the efficacy of Christian Science, both mentally and physically, in the healing of sorrow and discord, of rheumatic and nervous trouble, also the effects of a severe fall, etc.,—all by declaring the truth and knowing God to be the only Mind; that this Mind governs, guards, and guides us into all harmony, and that His presence, power, and peace do meet every human need. The Sentinel and Journal are a great help, as is all Christian Science literature; and especially Mrs. Eddy's writings, which teach one to know God, "whom to know aright is Life eternal" (Science and Health, Pref. p. vii.).
Mrs. Alice Stanley Clarke, Ryde, I. of W., England.
