Twenty years ago I was an invalid, given up by physicians. For seven years I had been a great sufferer from female weakness, unable to do any work, or even to be about but very little of the time. I employed eight physicians in all; I tried every remedy I could hear of, and at last my family physician advised me to go to the Maine General Hospital in Portland. I did so, and had two operations performed. I stayed three months, having the attendance of all the physicians there, besides a specialist who was called in. Twice during my stay there it was thought I would die, and I finally returned home in worse condition than when I went. Then, after seven years of suffering, during which I had spent a great deal of money for physicians and remedies, a friend who was not a Christian Scientist advised my trying Christian Science. I was not able to go to a practitioner, but sent word to her to come to me. After a few treatments I was healed of my troubles, including what one doctor had pronounced an abnormal growth. I had also been suffering from a severe bronchial trouble, but this, too, was overcome by the truth, and I began at once to attend to my household duties. More than fifteen years after this healing, another trouble came up, so that I was not able to walk without the use of a cane; but I held to Christian Science and called on a practitioner for help, and was at once released from bondage. A short time after this I walked over five miles through the woods without the slightest thought of my crippled condition a few months before.
Too much praise cannot be given to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. My own thankfulness cannot be expressed in words. Today the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" take the place of all other books for me. Christian Science has not only helped me physically, but spiritually as well.—Rose E. Estes, Skowhegan, Me.
