In the third chapter of Jeremiah we read, "And I will give you pastors according to mine heart which shall feed you with knowledge and undertanding." Who can doubt that this prophecy had its fulfilment when our divinely inspired Leader appointed the Bible and Science and Health to be the Pastor of the Church of Christ, Scientist, throughout the world? The steps by which she was led to this decision are told in her "Miscellaneous Writings," on pages 158 and 159. Not only are the Bible and Science and Health our Pastor at the Wednesday evening and Sunday services, but they serve as our guide, comforter, and friend whenever and under whatsoever circumstances we may turn to their pages, proving Mrs. Eddy's declaration to be true, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p.494). I recall an instance of instantaneous healing several years ago which was effected by reading one sentence in Science and Health. I had awakened in the morning with unpleasant symptome of illness, and while solicitous members of the family gathered around the bedside, my seven-year-old son, who has often experienced the healing power of Christian Science, handed me the "little book," Science and Health, which I opened, read one statement of truth, and was healed. All symptoms vanished then and there.

Although no works can express all the blessings and benefits I have received through the better understanding of God as taught in Science and Health, this was one of the most convincing and uplifting experiences I have had. In this case of illness human sympathy might temporarily have soothed the afflicted sense, but it could not have accomplished the result of the inspired thought, which was like an angel,—"a message from Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p.308),—although this time not entertained unawares, as I was conscious of the holy impartation. Who can doubt that the inspired teachings of the Bible and Science and Health will forever feed us with knowledge and understanding, as Jeremiah avers?
