In 1896 Christian Science found me a physical wreck,...
In 1896 Christian Science found me a physical wreck, with no hope of receiving any aid from mortal man. Nine years previous to that time, through a fit of impatience I lifted a heavy weight, which two physicians said produced a severe injury, and for this trouble they had me wear a supporter for eight years, at the end of which time I had become very nervous. After this trouble began my eyes gave way; I could neither read nor sew, nor could I go in bright sunlight or stand over a heated stove. I was tested by three experienced oculists, two of whom pronounced the trouble beyond help, and warned me that I might expect to grow worse as years passed by. I was a young lady at the time, living on limited means, and during the preceding nine years the greater part of this had gone to physicians, although they had been very kind to me and considerate in their charges. Their sentence cast a very gloomy shadow over me; the thought of life-long dependence on others, and possible blindness in the end, was anything but pleasant to contemplate.
In this condition I earnestly besought God to spare my eyes, and in answer to my prayer He sent me Christian Science. The first letter written to a practitioner was penned by a friend: the next contained a few lines written by my own hand: at the end of four weeks I could read two hours with ease, and at the expiration of ten weeks I was a well woman, every disease having yielded to Truth. I now use my eyes just as I wish. both day and night. Would I not be very unworthy if my heart did not go out in gratitude to our Leader. Mrs. Eddy, who by her faithful trust in God has made it possible for me to know Him as my Physician? The physical healing is small when compared with the spiritual uplifting, for to know God is "life eternal."
Miss Nannie Frizzelle, Snow Hill, N. C.
