Several years ago I was healed of two ailments by reading Science and Health. One was eye trouble which required glasses, the other hernia which was very painful. I never knew just when the healing came, I simply found that I was well. I did not at that time appreciate the greatness of this healing or of the truth which brought about this glorious result. My childhood had not been a happy one since the death of my mother, and I fell into error almost unconsciously. At one time I felt that I had enemies who tried to harm me because of a misunderstanding. I soon found bad physical conditions,—a badly inflamed and poisoned throat, which materia medica failed to cure. A friend advised me to turn to Christian Science for help again, and one Wednesday evening in the late fall of 1904 I attended for the first time a service in The Mother Church. The auditorium being crowded, I went into the vestry. The testimonies interested me greatly, and at the close of service I went to the front and spoke to a lady who proved to be a practitioner. I inquired if I could ask two or three questions. I was invited to do so, and as a result I began treatment. It was a long time before I could lay aside the resentment and hatred which I had cherished against those who I felt had injured me, but one day my practitioner gently and patiently showed me that wrong thought was perpetuating the sense of disease, that when I would love my neighbor as myself, and only abhor impersonal evil, I would be free. She quoted from our text-book these words, "When the mechanism of the human mind gives place to the divine Mind, selfishness and sin, disease and death, will lose their foothold" (Science and Health, p. 176). The perception and acceptance of this vital truth healed me. My throat is in perfect condition; both feet, lame from childhood because run over by an ice wagon, are healed. I am now a healthy and happy young man. Words can never express or money pay the debt of gratitude I owe to Christian Science,—God-given through our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
It was my privilege to become a member of The Mother Church in June, 1906, and I am daily striving to live worthy of such great blessings.
