Democrat and Chronicle,

In a recent issue, commenting upon my statement concerning the diagnosis of disease, you say; "Inasmuch as mental causation is recognized by all practitioners to have more or less to do with physical conditions, the conclusion seems justified that Christian Science is in process of modification so far as some of its claims are concerned." Your argument appears to be honest, but it is not true that "Christian Science is in process of modification so far as some of its claims is concerned." I am emboldened to add a word to my former statement. Critics as a rule do not take into consideration the fact that Christian Science, in accordance with the Master, suffers to be so now many things which would not be tolerated in the practice of absolute science. We recognize that perfection cannot be attained in a day, one can only comply with the sweeping and exalted demands of God in proportion to his spiritual attainments. Christian Scientists have always recognized that disease exists as an evil belief and must be wisely grappled with and overcome.
