It cannot be legitimately asserted by our critic that Christian Science "exalts scientific speculation above scientific knowledge," simply because Mrs. Eddy in her system of teaching emphasizes, simplifies, and demonstrates a scientific Principle in that spiritual realm which is generally conceded to be outside of and above the material. It might not be out of place to point out the fact that "the region of the known," even in the physical realm, is as yet lamentably small, and that what is now absolutely known in the realm of "scientific research" has been grasped only after centuries of speculation. On the other hand, the prophets and Jesus demonstrated beyong all cavil the supremacy and efficacy of spiritual over material law, so called, thus removing many centuries ago spiritual healing from the realm of the merely speculative. It is possibly not surprising, however, that this should be overlooked in a material age, in view of the fact made clear in Scripture, that "the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God;" that "the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; ... because they are spiritually discerned." The theory that God did not create pain and disease is not speculative but axiomatic.
