On the 22nd of December, 1906, our little girl was run over by a street car. Her leg was terribly injured, and her father was not fully willing to give up the family physician, although her grandmother called for Christian Science help for the child. As she had suffered great loss of blood, the doctor stated that her recovery was quite questionable. Some alarming conditions set in and the family physician told the grandmother to prepare me for the worst, as the little girl, according to his judgment, could not live. Upon hearing this statement my husband, although he did not know anything about Christian Science, asked the Christian Science practitioner to do all that could be done. After two days our child was out of danger, and when the physician came again he acknowledged this, but said that only with great care and nursing could the child be out of bed in four or five months. But thanks be to God she was out of bed in exactly four weeks from the date of the accident, and not only so but she went to visit an aunt in the country.
Later, the physician, who had waited on our family for many years, came to visit again, and suggested that skin should be grafted upon the injured limb, and as it was then drawn up, he said that if my husband was willing, he would operate on it and see if he could make it straight; but we were told that God never leaves His work undone, that we would see God's work complete; and we have seen it since! One night during the healing process the child got her hand under the bandage and seemingly injured the new flesh severely, so that a manifestation of blood-poison and high fever appeared, but through the truth taught in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, all this was overcome and the supposed material law annulled. The little forehead was also much disfigured, but after a few days' treatment the proper shape was restored. Altogether the child had four months' treatment, which seemed a long time, but through the operation of divine Mind her leg is as natural as it was before, and she expresses greater mental activity; in fact, she is healtheir than she ever was before.
Some months ago this dear child said to her little cousin, who wanted her to go and get some remedy for her baby sister, "Since we have learned of God, we don't have to run after medicine any more, for the truth is right here." She knows the truth for herself, her father, mother, and her little sisters. Our family is reading that wondrous book, Science and Health and my husband has given up medicine and looks to Christian Science for his help. I am very grateful to God for bringing Christian Science into our home through the healing of our daughter, which has given us a proof that we have a "God at hand."
