AN ALLEGORY

Two men sat by a spring and looked disappointedly at each other. "After all our hopes the water is not pure," said one; "see how muddy it is."

"I never expected to find it otherwise," responded the other, "but you would come."

"One must do something. It means death to drink the water in the valley below, and those who drink from the mountain spring claim that it satisfies their thirst, dispels the fever, and gives renewed strength and courage."
