It may be that my experience in healing will be the...
It may be that my experience in healing will be the means of helping some one to a clearer understanding of the Christ, Truth, and since it is my highest aim to be of some real help, it is with pleasure that I give my testimony to the truth as found in Christian Science. A year ago last winter I was afflicted for two months with a severe throat trouble, which only partially yielded to powerful medicines. The following summer my throat was very sensitive and I was obliged to take every precaution to keep it in a normal condition, Last February the old trouble came back with full force, and not knowing of anything else to do I consulted the same doctor I had employed the previous year. He prescribed the usual remedies, used electricity, and meanwhile I was using will-power, but the disease was spreading and my courage was correspondingly diminishing.
A sister, who I knew had been looking into Christian Science a little, came to the house to see me and casually remarked that she thought I might want to try something else. When I asked her if it were Christian Science, she replied that it was, and after awhile I gave my consent to have a practitioner called. I knew practically nothing of Christian Science and when the practitioner came and sat down by my side and said, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health, Pref. p. vii.), a great calm settled over me and I wondered if its teachings were all so sweet and restful as that one line. This was about seven o'clock Saturday evening. She read and talked to me for about an hour and then went away, but all except the first sentence was forgotten. Sunday morning I arose at the usual time, ate the regulation New England breakfast and was about the house all day. Neighbors who came in were perfectly amazed to see me up, and when on the following day I was out on the street their astonishment knew no bounds. From that day to this I have not had a touch of the old trouble and I am very grateful for the way in which I have been protected. While not able to demonstrate over every ill as yet, I have been helped many times and in various ways and know that I shall succeed altogether when I am able to conquer my own fears "and rise into higher and holier consciousness" (Science and Health, p. 419). Divine Love does indeed aid me in my work in the office, and when puzzling situations present themselves I have only to realize that God is intelligence and that while I am reflectiong good I have a right to manifest the attributes of good.
A feeling of love and thankfulness to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, too deep for my poor expression, fills my heart, and I am striving earnestly to follow the teachings which she has so lovingly given us.
