FROM OUR EXCHANGES

[The Standard.]

The beginning of the last century witnessed a condition in church life which alarmed the lovers of the kingdom of God. If now we are growing apprehensive it is a good sign. We have need of apprehension. At our best we are unworthy servants, and at our poorest we are a disgrace to the cause which we profess to love. It is high time that the Church of Jesus Christ should realize that she can never conquer the world by force of numbers. Not only must the worshiper of God approach Him with spiritual desire and receptivity. but the Church must base all her hopes upon the power of the Spirit to accomplish that to which God has sent her forth. If our progress has been arrested it is because communication has been cut off. in some appreciable measure, between God and His people.
