Rochester (N. Y.) Times
It is not claimed at this time that the practitioners of Christian Science heal every case, but it is claimed that they heal a larger percentage of cases than other systems. The amazingly rapid growth of Christian Science is attracting the attention of thinking people throughout the civilized world at the present time. Everywhere the question is being asked as to why it is gaining so many followers, and everywhere is the same answer, that it is because it is a religion that both heals the sick and regenerates the sinner.
Christian Scientists are not deluded. As a rule they are practical, sensible people. They have more faith in Christian Science than in drugs because they know that under Christian Science treatment they get better results with greater certainty than they were ever able to obtain under the drugging system. They are not disturbed by the fact that occasionally a person dies under Science treatment. They know that a larger proportion die under medicine, and they also know that among the more than 30,000 Christian Science population in the State of New York the death rate is much less than the average death rate for entire State These marvelous results of Christian Science practice are not published in any spirit of boasting. Christian Scientists do not go into print except to answer unjust attacks. In cases like the present, however, where it is stated that people are "criminally negligent" whenever they employ Christian Science treatment, it is not improper to state the facts. The only surprising thing about the matter is that in this day and age, when hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom are of the highest standing, have turned to Christian Science because of its healing of themselves and their families, any person could be found who is so deluded as to say that people who employ Christian Science treatment are either criminal or negligent.
