The Christian Scientist yields place to no one in voicing...
Reading (Pa.) Herald
The Christian Scientist yields place to no one in voicing appreciation of the self-sacrificing labors of the medical profession in their noble effors to stem the tide of humanity's ills. Neither does the Christian Scientist propose to have his own belief on the subject of healing misunderstood and misrepresented. Christian Science has no quarrel either with physicians or with ministers of the gospel. True it does not consider its case won by merely making superficial warfare upon sin. It attacks sin's offspring, disease and kindred evils, and pursues them to destruction; thus winning freedom for mankind in the physical as well as in the mental realm.
While sanitation, surgery, and commom-sense methods of dealing with the ill-effects of unrighteous living have in a measure successfully combated the sore distress of humanity in its hours of pain, it must be admitted that comparatively little progress was made, prior to the advent of Christian Science, towards lessening the fear of disease or stamping out the evil tendencies which the human will. manifests through passion, appetite, and hatred; all of which Christian Science reveals to be prolific sources of disease. Surely no time could be more propitious than the present for the inception and growth of this teaching with all its helpfulness and succor for weary and suffering humanity.
Christian Science, like the good Samaritan, passes not by on the other side, but binds up the broken-hearted and brings healing and relief to the wounded. It does not ignore evil, but successfully overcomes it. Understood and demonstrated, it accomplishes the very thing our critic contends for. Multitudes healed and saved through its ministrations prove to be a fact.
