I rejoice that your soul has set sail for that glorious...

I rejoice that your soul has set sail for that glorious—that only country,—the world of unseen Truth. It is not speedily that the pinions of your soul will have power to still the untamed body.... You ask me how we know?.... External objects present us only with appearances, concerning them, therefore, we possess opinions (beliefs) rather than knowledge. Ideal reality exists behind appearances. The object perceived is different from the mind perceiving it, we therefore have only a picture of it. Ideal truth is not so perceived.... The wise man recognizes the idea of good within him.... Seek not to realize beauty from without, but from within.

Letters of Plotinus (A.D 254).
