Rev. Dr. William G. Schoppe, former pastor of the Universalist church, Webster, Mass., retired from the Universalist faith and handed in his resignation as president and member of the Central! Massachusetts Universalist Ministers' Association at a meeting of the district ministers in the First Universalist church, Worcester. For some time Rev. Dr. Schoppe has been deeply interested in Christian Science, and he has taken this step only after thoroughly convincing himself that it is the truer religion of the two. The resignation was accepted by the association and regrets and best wishes were ordered sent to him. Last April Rev. Dr. Schoppe's resignation to the Webster church and the ministerial union was accepted, and since then he has devoted his time to the lecture platform and to the study of Christian Science. He says his attention was first called to this Science a year ago, when his wife was ill, and he declares that only through the aid of Christian Science friends was Mrs. Schoppe cured. Dr. Schoppe at once became absorbed in the matter and since that time has studied it from the beginning, until he has come to the present state of thinking that it is a wonderful Science and even above his own faith of Universalism. He has previously upheld Christian Science at meeting of the Universalist association, and his actions now are not at all surprising to his friends. Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Schoppe left Webster to make their home in Worcester about two weeks ago.
